Curriculum Directions

Habitat Early Learning embraces an eclectic approach to Curriculum. This means that our programs are informed by several approaches that are carefully interwoven to create a holistic and meaningful direction for learning. Our curriculum incorporates emergent, individualised and play based approaches all of which centre on active inquiry.

An emergent curriculum is based on the concept that by observing and listening to the child, the educator is able to extend and strengthen a child’s current knowledge and understanding. Children are recognised as capable and competent as they are supported to take on an active role in their own emerging interests. In this way, children are co-constructors of learning, continually negotiating the direction of the curriculum. The learning environment is arranged to enable individual, small and whole group inquiry.

Children's interest and emerging understandings are the foundation of integrated curriculum planning incorporating and combining all key learning areas (for example, through the 'projects' that you may see unfolding over time).
